Ember Mug is now available in a larger, 14-ounce size. Designed for home or office, the Ember Mug and its companion app on your iPhone or Apple Watch allow you to set your precise drinking temperature, track caffeine consumption, save presets for your favorite drinks, customize the LED color, and more. Ember also maintains your chosen temperature for approximately one hour, so your hot beverage stays perfect from the first sip to the last drop.
Using the Ember mug is simple: You charge it, turn it on, pour a hot beverage into it, and drink. The controls are intuitive: press the power button once to turn on, hold it to turn off, hold it for five seconds to pair, etc. By pairing it via Bluetooth to your phone, you can use the Ember app to specify what kind of beverage you’re drinking—like tea, espresso, or a latte—and it’ll suggest the ideal temperature for each, anywhere from 120 to 145 degrees Fahrenheit. For instance, the app suggests 135 degrees for coffee, but I like mine to scald a bit more, and so I dial it up to 140. And when the pre-programmed temperature has been reached, Ember sends your phone a notification.
The Ember mug is minimalist and sturdy, and its matte black surface hides the fact that it’s actually got some impressive heating mechanisms inside. (The outside of the mug is never too hot to the touch, by the way.) The power button is hidden on the bottom, and the indicator light pulses gently near the base. You can even customize the color of the LED light, so it displays the hue you like best. The app itself isn’t crowded with unnecessary information or controls. You’re just drinking coffee, after all. It’s not rocket science.
