Accessories for Canon 80D Enthusiasts When considering Canon’s extensive range of cameras, it’s safe to say that the Canon 80D stands out as one of their top performers among a roster of impressive models. Released in the middle of 2016, the Canon 80D has garnered immense popularity among intermediate and professional photographers, vloggers, YouTubers, and video content creators.
Given the Canon 80D’s widespread acclaim and the thriving community of users, I embarked on a quest to identify the finest accessories that can enhance your Canon 80D experience. In the following list, you will discover my personal favorites, which I use regularly with my own Canon EOS 80D. This selection encompasses items like SD cards, flashes, batteries, straps, tripods, and much more, all aimed at helping you maximize your camera’s capabilities.
1. SanDisk Extreme Pro 64GB SDXC UHS-I Memory Card
Have you ever found yourself in a breathtaking location, unable to resist capturing countless photos and videos? Then, the dreaded realization hits you that your SD card is full, and you’re hesitant to delete any precious moments.
I’ve found myself in this predicament on multiple occasions, and I’m not proud to admit it! However, I eventually learned my lesson and took action by investing in additional SD cards that I always keep in my camera bag. This ensures that I never run out of storage or miss the chance to capture more remarkable shots.
When it comes to selecting SD cards for my Canon 80D, I prefer the SanDisk Extreme Pro. It boasts an impressive read speed of up to 95MB/s and write speeds of up to 90MB/s, making it more than suitable for recording in UHD or even 4K video quality.
What truly sets this SD card apart, in my opinion, is its exceptional durability. It’s designed to withstand extreme conditions, including temperature fluctuations, x-rays, shocks, and even water exposure. In essence, it’s the “terminator” of SD cards. To top it off, it comes with a lifetime warranty, offering peace of mind and long-lasting reliability.
2. Canon Battery Pack LP-E6N
I’ll admit, this topic may not be the most thrilling, but it addresses a common frustration I’ve experienced, much like the one I mentioned earlier with SD cards. It always seems that when you need them, spare batteries are nowhere to be found!
Given that I frequently record videos for my YouTube channel, my camera tends to put a heavy demand on its battery. To address this issue, I’ve chosen to keep a few extra batteries on hand that I can quickly swap out at a moment’s notice.
Furthermore, if you’re shooting on location, there’s nothing more disheartening than missing a stunning sunset simply because your battery has run out.
The Canon 80D utilizes the affordable LP-E6N battery packs, making them an excellent choice. Currently, I have three of these batteries in my kit, and they’ve proven to be real lifesavers.
3. Vivitar Camera Backpack Bag For DSLR Camera
I’ll admit, this might not be the most thrilling topic, but it addresses a similar frustration I experienced with the SD cards mentioned earlier. It’s that feeling when you desperately need something, and it’s nowhere to be found. Well, spare batteries for your camera fall into the same category.
As someone who frequently records videos for my YouTube channel, I put a considerable strain on my camera’s battery. To solve this issue, I’ve chosen to keep some additional batteries on hand that I can easily swap out at a moment’s notice.
Furthermore, when you’re out on location, there’s nothing more disappointing than missing a stunning sunset photo opportunity just because your camera battery has run out of juice.
The Canon 80D uses the affordable LP-E6N battery packs, making them an excellent choice. Currently, I have three of these backup batteries in my kit.
4. Rode VideoMic Pro Compact VMP Shotgun Microphone
Another excellent accessory that stands out as one of the top choices for enhancing your Canon 80D camera is an external microphone, specifically the Rode VideoMic Pro, renowned as the industry standard for audio equipment.
Regrettably, the built-in microphones on DSLR cameras have lagged behind in technological advancements compared to other camera features. This deficiency becomes evident when you listen to the thin and unsatisfactory audio quality during video playback.
However, when employing a microphone like the VideoMic, it eliminates that undesirable thin sound and replaces it with exceptionally clear and silky-smooth audio. I personally utilize this microphone for my vlog and have been extremely pleased with the outcomes.
It’s worth noting that this microphone operates using a 9V battery, so it’s advisable to keep a spare one ready. Nevertheless, I managed to get approximately 70 hours of usage from each battery, which is quite impressive! For guidance on setting up your microphone, you can refer to this instructional video.
5. Canon Battery Grip For EOS 80D Digital SLR Camera
Another battery-related product? Well, I must admit, I have a bit of a fascination with batteries! However, the battery grip offers several notable advantages in comparison to the conventional battery setup.
Firstly, it provides an additional grip function, which I personally find significantly enhances the comfort of shooting with my Canon 80D. Instead of consistently holding it from one side, I can now grip it from the bottom, which proves particularly advantageous for capturing portraits and landscapes.
Another impressive benefit is the extended battery life it offers, as this grip accommodates 2 Canon LPE6N batteries. Moreover, there’s also the option to resort to 6 AA batteries if needed. While this specific grip is originally designed for the 70D, it’s fully compatible with the Canon 80D as well.
And, as a fun little bonus, using a battery grip can give you that unmistakable air of professionalism when you’re out there taking shots!
6. AmazonBasics Wireless Remote Control for Canon Digital SLR Cameras
Last but certainly not least on my roster of camera accessories is the incredibly versatile wireless remote offered by AmazonBasics. To begin with, this remote is remarkably affordable, priced even lower than a typical fast-food meal.
While I may not find myself using this remote on a daily basis, I am undeniably grateful to have it in my kit for those moments when the need arises. My photography endeavors often take me through phases, such as long exposure and capturing the Milky Way, where this remote proves to be exceptionally useful.
I previously relied on a wired remote shutter, but I encountered a minor issue even with that setup. Being in close proximity to the camera would occasionally introduce subtle softness into my shots during 10-second exposures.
Using this wireless remote, however, grants me the freedom to stand at a distance of 10 feet from the camera without any concerns about this issue. All in all, it’s a fantastic addition to my gear collection!
